I have a soft spot for the Hills , I know its quite sad.
In my sociology lecture today we were learning about a man who wrote 'the sociological imagination' which is basically the handbook of sociology.
So im practicing using my sociological imagination.
one thing that stood out was the 'I' and 'me' factors. Children don't know 'me' they know 'i'.
'I' happens when we are first born , we don't understand the 'rules' of society , we don't understand that screaming in the supermarket is not socially accepted. 'I' is when we don't understand that the world doesn't revolve around ourselves , that the people in our lives aren't just there for us and we don't understand that everyone else has their own wants and needs.
'Me' is when we have become more 'socially constructed' , we learn the rules of socially for example when we walk into a class room we don't turn and face the back of the room light up a cigarette and start yelling .
We also generally feel compassion for our significant others and understand they aren't there to please us.
'Me' also involves a couple other things
1. we become aware of who we are and what we think about ourselves.
2. we become construct what we think others think of us
3. we now try to become what we think others think of us
3a. we try to morph ours selves and become socially accepted.
3b. we now try to become socially accepted and fail and wear the seal of shame
Now i most likely got that a bit wrong but that's what i took from the lecture.
Here is Heidi Montag who has tried to 'improve' herself. She is so ridiculously in her own little world that she has no idea what she has done to herself.
Im not sure if she has got this surgery because she was deeply unhappy with herself or she is just so intent on pleasing others.
anyway here is hollywoods tragic idea of beauty
